We had a great time investigating and discussing all things scientific this year! One of our favourite activities was when we linked our PE lesson with Science. We decided we would investigate our heart rates and the impact that certain exercises and activities have on our heart rate. How to take your heart rate To begin with, we discussed and took our ‘resting’ heart rates. This was a little bit tricky at first (some of us were worried we didn’t have any 😅) but after some perseverance we became comfortable calculating them. We did this by counting the...

Junior Infants loved taking part in Maths week, along with all other classes in the school. We started the week with some number runs and maths games. We got a chance with a break in the weather to do some chalk drawings in the yard, practising our shapes and numbers. We also got to incorporate some IT into our numeracy lessons. We had great fun using the interactive whiteboard for maths games, try out some of the numeracy apps on the class tablets and even got to do some programming using the school Beebots!

We continued the week with another STEM activity and asked the question – ‘How do parachutes work?’ Parachutes need to be able to catch air inside them so we spent some time thinking of what materials we could use for our parachutes. Then we spent time designing our parachutes. Each group received the same amount of materials and time to complete the activity. We...
