6th class have been busy baking this year! Baking lessons allow us to put our practical Maths skills to use – weighing, measuring and timing – and also give us an opportunity to engage in some procedural writing. So far this year, we have made banana bread and fairy cakes. We work in groups and each have different responsibilities when it comes to following Liz’s delicious recipes! As part of our research into the Winter Olympics and the various sports that are included in the games, we decided we wanted to find out more about bobsledding! We found out that bobsledding is a team sport, which involves riding on iced tracks in a sled. These modern tracks are made from concrete and are coated with ice. The aim of the race is to reach the finish line in the fastest time possible! Bobsledding was originally developed in the 1800s in Switzerland. We watched some old videos of the first bobsled (4 man) event in the inaugural Winter Olympic Games in 1924 and were shocked... 

Welcome to the St. Peter’s Christmas Play 2021! This year, our classes have been really busy putting together fantastic videos of the students singing, dancing and acting for you. We really hope you enjoy the show!  

We had great fun celebrating Science Week this year! Science is one of our favourite subjects and we love taking part in STEM activities! One of our favourite weeks of the year! We loved taking part in STEM for Fun in the hall this year and had the chance to try lots of different activities including creating paper planes and racing them, programming Bee Bots, building a circle using Pringles, building the tallest tower using paper and using Lego to create a ‘vehicle of the future’. In our classroom we discussed ideas that we hope Science will help us answer in the future... 

We have been busy baking and cooking again this year and love learning lots of different skills during these lessons. We are very lucky that Mrs. Kelly has the BEST recipes for us to try and it’s definitely our favourite time of the week! So far this year we have made homemade sausage rolls, scones, apple pie, jam tarts and garlic bread. Through baking, we learn lots of important life skills, as well having the chance to practise some Maths concepts in real life. For example, every time we bake we get the chance to measure out ingredients, estimate how long each recipe will take to cook,... 

We are very excited to be back completing some STEM challenges! STEM activities give us a chance to practise our Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills and to have some fun 😊 Check out our first STEM challenge of the year in Ms. Kane’s class below! Welcome to our virtual graduation ceremony for the class of 2021! The slides will be live from 8pm tonight. During the day today, we held a socially distant ceremony in person for our 6th class – sticking to our pods – with a very small number of staff spread out around the hall. This evening, we invite our families and friends to celebrate with us! Our mural this year reflects the time we spent on Zoom. We loved taking part in Wellness Week. It gave us a great chance to discuss our feelings and what we enjoy doing to keep our minds and bodies healthy. We also shared some tips with each other about looking after our wellbeing in the future! We started the week with some Monday Meditation and found that this gave us a chance to breathe before beginning a new week. It’s important to take some time each day to do this. We had great fun taking part in our recent STEM challenge. We have been learning about climate change, sustainability and also celebrated Engineers Week 2021. To bring all of our recent learning together we decided to make our own eco racers, test how they operate and race them to see what makes them travel fast and in a straight line. We think eco racers might be the future of car design because their friendly to the environment, not using fuel to operate and can be cheap to make!
