We had GREAT fun for Maths Week in 2nd class. On Monday, we used our Maths Eyes to find square corners around the school. You can find our blog post about it here. On Tuesday, we thought about a word problem and drew out the answers in our copies…   For #mathsweek14 2nd class are answering this question. We’re looking for as many combinations as possible! pic.twitter.com/awWp9rgfIg — St. Peter’s Primary (@StPetersBray) October 14, 2014 We then made a poster showing some of the possible combinations to answer the word problem. 2nd class are making a #mathsweek poster to...

We have lots of exciting plans in 2nd class for Maths week! We decided to kick off Monday of Maths week by looking for square corners in the corridor and in the front yard. Square corners are also known as right angles. Squares and rectangles have four right angles. Check out our Animoto – our Maths Eyes were wide open today!

Last Saturday, St. Peter’s had the huge honour of showcasing their technology and ICT use in Dublin Castle at the Excited Digital Learning Conference. We were invited to participate having completed the Digital Schools of Distinction adjudication. It has been an incredible year for St. Peter’s, and we have worked to improve and enhance our use of ICT at every level in the school. This has led to great success at a national level, and we have been successful in the national Eircom Junior Spiders awards, the national Mathletes finals and we have also won a Creative Schools award for use...

This week, we’re integrating our usual work (along with other exciting events) with Tech Week Ireland and with Digital Art Week. One way that 5th class have taken part in both events was to experiment with SketchUp. SketchUp has a bit of a history in St Peter’s. In 2009, 6th class at the time were declared the Senior Engineering Class of Ireland. In the lead up to the finals, they presented a project at the BT Young Scientist Primary Science Fair (and won the top prize on the day with two other schools!). The class were looking out for ways to develop their project and Leon (Kelsey...

We’re starting off Term 3 with Tech Week 2014.  It is a celebration of the opportunities that technology brings into our lives, as it inspires and encourages us in our learning and daily work. The aim of Tech Week is to highlight how important technology is to us, as we work creatively in school and at home! We can’t imagine life in St. Peter’s without the internet,...

‘Maths for Fun’ is back in St. Peter’s! ‘Maths for Fun’ is a Home/School initiative where parents come into the classroom to work with the children playing different maths games. Every ten minutes the children move to a different station and play a new game. There are a variety of maths games such as maths bingo, interactive games on the laptops, tangrams, fraction games, What Time is it Mr Wolf?, etc. The games mean the children are practising their maths skills while also having fun. Many thanks to Claire, Noeleen and Elaine who organised and implemented ‘Maths for Fun’ this...

We’ve always enjoyed taking part in Engineer’s Week activities – back in 2005, we were the Senior Engineering Class of Ireland and the trophy was one of the coolest we’ve ever seen! This year, we really enjoyed Engineer’s Week. You can see an overview of all of our activities here. We were so excited to get an email from the STEPS co-ordinator, Sylvia Leatham, to tell us that we had won a prize for our efforts! Here’s the press release from STEPS. Sylvia had very kind comments about our work: Your blog gave us a great sense of what you did – it looks...

We’ve had a ball with Engineer’s Week this week! Here’s a round up post of all the activities that took place in different classes over the week… 2nd Class made Apple Mummies! You’ll find out how they did it here. Our apple mummies! They also did the ‘raw egg’ test. It is definitely something that you could all try at home! Find out how to do it here! Our raw egg test What the egg looked like after the vinegar dissolved the shell! We put it over the light to be able to see through it! When we looked at electrical engineering we made string telephones. We...

Every year we use K’nex to help us to explore and improve our construction and engineering skills. This year, our K’nex challenge became part of our Engineering Week 2014 set of activities. Previous challenges include building a bridge, building a lifeboat and building a quad bike. This year we decided to have a local slant on the activity. As you all know, Bray is the hometown of Katie Taylor. We set a challenge to the students to build a tower called after Katie, that would be the centre-point if Bray ever hosted the Olympics. We can dream! The design needed to be: 1. Between 50cm...
