Recently, the whole school learned a song and sang it together at assembly. We chose ‘I Lived’ by One Republic because the lyrics are so inspirational. It’s all about experiencing the good and the bad of life and is written by a father to his newborn son. We loved singing the song together and a special well done to our soloists – Casey, Patrick, Sophie, Toby, AJ, Kristina, Carl, Tristan, Finn, Lex, Adem, Ellie and Hayley.   I lived from St Peter's, Bray on Vimeo.

Senior Infants have been busy exploring and investigating different materials. We have looked at wood, plastic, fabric, cardboard and rubber and have learned that they all look and feel very different. Investigating and experimenting is something we like to try whenever we get the opportunity. After reading ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ by Julia Donaldson we decided it might be a good idea to try to design and make a coat for the Gruffalo’s Child to wear. We knew that the Gruffalo’s Child liked to explore the woods near his home but it seemed silly that he wasn’t wearing a coat out in the...

Having learned about the Titanic last week, the children in first class decided to undertake the challenge of designing their own boats.  First we brainstormed the properties of boats and we decided that they need to float, carry people and have some way of moving.  Then we discussed what types of materials would be good to use when building boats.  We concluded that materials such as paper and cardboard would be no good as they would get soggy.  Instead we would need to use waterproof materials such as plastic and strong materials such as metal. The first step we took was to see what objects...

We have had a very busy term in Senior Infants and hope everyone is enjoying their well deserved break! Here is a little update on what’s been happening in our classroom! Investigating and experimenting is something we like to try whenever we get the opportunity. After reading ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ by Julia Donaldson we decided it might be a good idea to try to design and make a coat for the Gruffalo’s Child to wear. We knew that the Gruffalo’s Child liked to explore the woods near his home but it seemed silly that he wasn’t wearing a coat out in the snow! The Gruffalo’s Child...

Last Tuesday, March 15th, in every school across the country, students are celebrating Proclamation Day as part of the celebrations of the centenary of 1916. In St Peter’s, we had a very special ceremony, where every class was involved, finishing with the raising of the Irish flag that was presented late last year by the members of the Defence Forces. We also displayed artwork in the hall related to our projects on the Easter Rising. Our ceremony started with an introduction from our principal, Ms. Whyte. Next, Amber from 4th class, Finn and Chris from 5th class and Alex, Alana and Ryan...

Recently, we celebrated the 100th day of the school year in St. Peter’s and we had lots of events to mark the day! We are all 100 days smarter, but what would we look like if we were 100 YEARS smarter? We used an app to age some of our classes to find out! Click ‘read more’ to see the rest of the photos!

Over the past the couple of weeks in Senior Infants we have been learning about hospitals and doctors as part of our Aistear activities. It linked in really nicely with our theme of food and healthy habits! We discussed lots of new vocabulary like ‘accident’, ’emergency’, ‘surgeon’, ‘thermometer’ and ‘stethoscope’. We discussed going to the doctor if we don’t feel well and going to the hospital if we need an operation or have broken our arm or leg. During our role play we played the parts of secretary, doctor, nurse, hospital chef,...

For the past couple of weeks we have been learning about ‘Food’ in Senior Infants. We have discussed our favourite kinds of food (pizza, chicken, bread and potatoes!) and where certain foods come from. For example we know that Sushi is a Japanese dish, France is famous for bread and Italy is famous for pasta. We also discussed how important it is to eat healthy food. Healthy food gives us energy and helps us to concentrate in school. We love to eat healthy foods like apples, bananas, fish and wraps. We learned about the ‘food pyramid’ and worked in groups to create our own...

To celebrate Science Week 2015 we decided to get creative in Senior Infants. We have been learning about ‘House and Home’ recently and read one of our favourite books ‘The Three Little Pigs’! We love this story and were inspired to try to design and create our own houses using some different types of materials, including plastic straws, wooden blocks, coloured card and Play Doh. We wanted to find out which material would be best to use to make a house for our classroom puppets. Before the group experiments began we made some predictions. We predicted that the wooden blocks...
