We were delighted to welcome in our new Junior Infants this year who have settled in really well. Despite being unable to have our traditional open day in June we are delighted with how well everyone has adapted to their new surroundings. Every morning we start the day with circle time and our welcome song. We are busy “working” every day with free play and Aistear. The topic this month is homes, where we are learning all about different houses, rooms and families. We also try to fit in some fun physical activities in the hall or in the yard outside while the weather...

Since mid-term Senior Infants have been working on the clothes shop in aistear.  Have a look at what we have been getting up to… In the socio-dramatic play station we have been operating a clothes shop where customers can browse, try on and buy different items of clothing. The girls are dressed to impress for their holidays. Our shop had so many different types of clothes. We had great fun looking at ourselves in the clothes and costumes. We always made sure to pay for the clothes with the shop assistant. We had fun working as designers. We designed outfits for ourselves. Team spirit in...

Working on the weather!  Senior infants had great fun working at the weather station during aistear.  Here are some pictures of what we got up to… Presenting and recording the weather in pairs. It is so important to be enthusiastic when you are on the television. Checking our recordings before trying to make improvements. Making weather dials at the art station. Next up for us is the clothes shop!

In aistear this fortnight senior infants have been focusing on the theme of ‘myself’ through participating in ‘talent show’ themed work in all subjects.  We had a talent showcase performance this afternoon where, for the first time, the whole class got to perform their special talents to the rest of the class who were the audience.  We were treated to an amazing show!  Have a look at some moments from the talent show below. The girls doing jigs and reels Other talents included  a mini karate lesson, football skills and a roaring lion.  What an enjoyable afternoon! Next...

For the whole month of September the girls and boys in Senior Infants were all working hard cooking and baking in our restaurant. In our role play area the children got the chance to become waiters, chefs waitresses and customers. Here are a few pictures of the students enjoying our restaurant. In our construction area the children built restaurants. In our fine motor skills area the children make cakes for our restaurant using straws. In our art section we created Gingerbread men and we read books about food in the library.

SuperValu Bray very kindly welcomed our class of Senior Infants to their bakery today. The class learned about food safety, wore the hats and gloves that the bakers wear, watched the jam doughnuts being filled with jam and then got to cover the doughnuts in sugar. After that, they watched a cake being covered in cream and sprinkles. Finally, they got to watch the dough being kneaded into bread rolls. They got to take home their doughnuts and got  a goodie bag too (and the teachers got doughnuts too!) Thanks so much to SuperValu Bray for being so kind to us all. We had a brilliant morning and...

This September, Senior Infants have been learning all about food through Aistear. Every day, we take a different station to work on. We plan our play and then we review it afterwards. We’re working very hard to improve our listening skills by looking at the person who is talking and summarising what they say. Last week, our stations were Construction, Socio-dramatic area (The Coffee Shop), Sand and Art. This week, our stations are Socio-dramatic area (The Coffee Shop), Play Doh, ICT and Small World (The Ice-cream shop). We also have a writing station that anyone can using during our Aistear...

Junior and Senior Infants have been learning about the post office during Aistear. We have been learning what our address is, we have been learning that we put our address on letters and parcels that you send off in the post. We have been learning what stamps are too.   We had a very exciting visit from Trevor the postman last week. We asked him loads of questions like “where do you get the letters?” Trevor told us that another postman collects the letters and sends them to Dublin. The people in Dublin send them back to Bray and Trevor delivers them! We asked them what happens...
