We are big fans of Roald Dahl in our class; we decided to read one of his books after all the interesting things that we read about him during World Book Day! We chose The Twits. We talk about each chapter with our talk buddies after reading it, and then we write a summary in our copies. We make sure to talk about the beginning, middle and end every time. Sometimes we chat about how the characters are feeling while we are reading the book, we even try to imagine how we would feel if we were them! We are always laughing at the mean tricks that the Twits play on eachother! Here are some of our favourite...

On Tuesday boys from 3rd– 6th class travelled down to beautiful Avondale to take part in a Cross Country Athletics competition. The boys ran in relay teams of four and did our school proud. It was a tough course but each of the boys tried their best and gave it their all until they reached the finish line. We were blessed that the sun was shining and we all had a wonderful day. ‘Everyone in 3rd class really enjoyed the cross country running.’ – Szymon ‘It was a hard course but we tried our best and had fun.’ –Finn ‘Each of us showed great school spirit cheering on the boys from...

Today we were reviewing electricity. We started with Think-Pair-Share where we discussed what we already know about electricity – a good way of warming up our brains! Next we examined a concept cartoon that Ms Sexton got at her STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) course. We discussed what we thought about the cartoons and we generated questions and theories about it: The switch turns the lamp on and off It doesn’t matter where the switch is on the circuit because as long as there’s a power source and a bulb, they’ll light. I don’t think that the small wire...

Tommy has started a new trend for film-making. Cathal from 3rd class and Robert from 5th class are showcasing their excellent stop-motion films made at home today! They used Lego and a stop-motion app to create two videos. They plan to make another one using Cathal’s crane over the weekend. We’re really impressed by our students’ creativity! Today at 1.30pm Oreo the Spring lamb came to visit our school. Ben, Johnny,Jordan and Nathan O’B from Ms Mitchell’s Class got to hold the lamb and pet him too. Oreo was very happy to see us all. Jordan noticed that he had no teeth. Johnny noticed that he had a black nose and was very soft to touch. Ben thought he was very woolly and soft too. Nathan got a very cuddly hug off Oreo, they became good friends! Nathan missed Oreo a lot! After seeing Oreo our class had a big chat about the kinds of farms sheep live on, where wool comes from, and where we get our yummy lamb dinners from too! ...

We all thoroughly enjoyed decorating and eating our delicious pancakes today! Ryan and Nathan had very creative ideas and quite a lot of toppings too!! White chocolate, sugar & lemon and golden syrup were our favourites! As we ate we talked about what Pancake Tuesday is and discovered that it is also  called  ” Shrove Tuesday”. Ben told us that it is always the day before Ash Wednesday. Ryan explained that it is always just before Lent begins. Nathan O’B knew that Lent lasted for 40 days and 40 nights. We are looking forward to getting our Ashes at mass tomorrow.

Today we thought about all of the signs of Spring in nature, we then went on a nature walk to check if had forgotten to add anything ! Afterwards we made a wordle of all things to do with Spring and nature. We learnt that Spring is a time of growth; the plants and trees are starting to grow buds & leaves, and the animals are coming out of hibernation. Many animals are having babies now too, we have noticed lambs, calves and chicks. We named quite a lot of Spring flowers today too; daffodil, snowdrop, bluebell, tulip, primrose, can you think of anymore? Ms. Mitchell found some frogspawn and...

On Monday we had a wonderful treat in Ms. Mitchell’s class because almost all of the class put in an extra super effort to our tests on Friday and had some truly impressive results! Ms. Mitchell was so proud that we even had TWO pupils of the week instead of one! As a reward we made fruit smoothies in class and got to watch footage of the Winter Olympics while drinking them. We chopped up the fruit, added yoghurt and orange juice and blended carefully, with the help of the wonderful Ms. Flanagan. We think they tasted YUM!

This month our theme is “The Body”. We are exploring all of the different senses that the body has. This week we investigated the senses of sight and hearing. We predicted what we might see and hear around the school corridors. Next we took a “sensory walk” around our school , first with our eyes closed so that we could focus on everything we could hear! Afterwards we walked around with our ears covered so that we could just focus on everything we would see! We had a lot of fun! We found out that our school is a noisy, busy and colourful place!
