In Senior Infants we were learning all about what happens to the flowers and plants in Spring time. We decided to grow our very own little seed pots in our classroom. First we had a class discussion on: What does a plant need to grow? Are any of these things more important than the others? What happens if a plant doesn’t get enough water, heat, light or food? Can a plant get too much of a good thing? What might happen if it does? How similar are plants to people? What do we need if we’re going to grow up strong?   YOU WILL NEED: Seeds Plant pots A bag of compost Water Our Instructions  Place...

We were delighted to take part in the FIRST Lego League Competition in Galway again this year as part of our Lego Club. This was our third year to enter the competition and we had a brilliant time again. There are 3 main elements to the competition – The Project, Core Values and The Robot Game & design Problem For the project this year we were asked to look at ways we find, use, transport and dispose of water and how we could improve this. We started looking at all the ways we use water in our lives. At Lego Club we split into groups and listed all the ways we use water every day. Then we...

We are now super motivated and we feel confident and ready to take on the dragons in Dragons Den on Monday.

The whole school took part in our Green Schools Action Day on Friday the 10th of November.  We dressed in Green and all classes took part in lessons and activities around the theme of litter and waste.  We also focused on our school garden and we looked at improving this area. Junior Infants created a town called Juniorville using recyclable materials they gathered from home. Senior Infants gathered recyclable materials, sorted and classified them before creating their own junk art inventions. 1st class planted some seeds for our school garden.  These included peas, brocolli and rocket which...

We would like to say a huge thanks to everybody in all classes who volunteer to pick litter on the yard during break and lunch time.  Thanks to these efforts, there is seldom a scrap of litter floating about.  It is getting more and more difficult to find litter to pick:) This September we began keeping a school garden.  With help from Stephen we prepared our raised beds.  He helped us sow some strawberries. Our potatoes and strawberries in the raised beds. We throw our weeds into the compost bin. We were told to keep some green mixed in with our fruit. We look forward to adding more...

In Senior Infants, we’re very proud of our two Green Schools reps – Aaron and Joey! Lately, we’ve been learning all about litter and the importance of keeping our environment clean. We went on a walk to see if we could find litter in our local area and members of our class have been helping Ms Ward and the Green Schools team to do litter picking. We also designed posters to encourage our school community not to litter. Here are some photos of our activities! Here are our posters!

This week, in Junior Infants, we met a whale named Sally, who lives in the sea beside a lovely village called Sandy Shores. We asked Sally lots of questions about Sandy Shores and made predictions about what she might like to play, eat and do for fun! She was very upset the second time she came to visit us, however, because Sandy Shores had developed a terrible litter problem. Her home was getting polluted with lots of rubbish and this made her feel very sad. Luckily, Junior Infants are experts at dealing with rubbish and looking after the environment. The Lord Mayor of Sandy Shores heard that...
