Mr. Foley’s class went to visit Sealife as part of our Discover Primary Science project. Sealife is a SFI Discover Centre in Ireland. It was the first time some of the pupils had made the short trip to Sealife and everybody had great fun there while learning about what lives in the sea both in Ireland and abroad. While we there we learned all about the different types of fish in Irish sea water, as well as tropical fish that can be only found in Ireland in the centre in Bray. These tropical fish need warm water to survive and our seas are too cold for them. Luckily, some of the tanks in Sealife...

We were delighted to take part in the FIRST Lego League Competition in Galway again this year as part of our Lego Club. This was our third year to enter the competition and we had a brilliant time again. There are 3 main elements to the competition – The Project, Core Values and The Robot Game & design Problem For the project this year we were asked to look at ways we find, use, transport and dispose of water and how we could improve this. We started looking at all the ways we use water in our lives. At Lego Club we split into groups and listed all the ways we use water every day. Then we...

SuperValu Bray very kindly welcomed our class of Senior Infants to their bakery today. The class learned about food safety, wore the hats and gloves that the bakers wear, watched the jam doughnuts being filled with jam and then got to cover the doughnuts in sugar. After that, they watched a cake being covered in cream and sprinkles. Finally, they got to watch the dough being kneaded into bread rolls. They got to take home their doughnuts and got  a goodie bag too (and the teachers got doughnuts too!) Thanks so much to SuperValu Bray for being so kind to us all. We had a brilliant morning and...

On Thursday April 14th, Mr. Foley’s class made their much awaited trip to Dublin Zoo, a designated DPSM Discover centre, as part of the school’s application for this year’s award. Adam, Luke, Patrick, Nathan K, Nathan O’B, Arturas, Jordan and Johnny all made the trip and for many, it was their first time to the zoo. It was a day they will never forget, and was the perfect mix of learning and fun. We were very lucky that all the animals seemed to be very energetic and the crowds were not too big as we spent almost 3 hours walking around and learning about each of the animals. Johnny’s...

We all had an amazing time at the First Lego League in Galway. It was such a wonderful experience and we were so grateful to The First Lego League, Debbie, Bernard and all of the volunteers from SAP who made it such a wonderful day. We presented our work to the judges and represented our school and Co. Wicklow with pride. Our team ‘Smash the Trash’ not only won medals but we also received a trophy for all our hard work. We are looking forward to next year already! Check out some pictures from the day:         We are so excited to be heading to Galway tomorrow morning....

Yesterday, 22 students from 5th and 6th class travelled to the Aviva to watch UCD Waves play in the final of the FAI Women’s Cup. Unfortunately, the result didn’t go our way (we were cheering for UCD Waves) but we had a brilliant day – as you can see in the Animoto and the Storify of all the tweets. Thanks to UCD Waves for our tickets and to Dublin Bus for supplying our transport. Thanks also to Paddy, Ms Flanagan, Mr Kinsella, Ms Kane, Ms Keating, Ms Sexton and Mr Foley for organising the trip and coming along to look after the students – and to Alan for the photo above! For...

There was lots of excitement from early last Thursday morning as we prepared for our school tour! 61 students and 7 staff left St Peter’s at 9.30 am and headed for Fort Lucan. A fantastic time was had by all, as you can see from our Animoto and Vines below! The go-karting and water slides were very popular and there were some great games of chasing on the climbing frames and slides. As always, our classes mixed really well with each other and looked out for each other throughout the day. It was a brilliant way to finish off the term and everyone went home exhausted, but happy (and soaking...

Yesterday, 5th and 6th class visited Bray Garda station as part of our Community Garda, Stephen’s, work with the school. He visited 5th class a couple of weeks ago so we were really interested to see everything that we’d learned about. You can read our previous post here. We had a really interesting morning in Bray Garda station and we got to see the squad cars, the cells, the medical room, the interview room and the control room where all the emergency calls for County Wicklow come into. We also got to see the CCTV footage from the cameras around Bray. Stephen was really generous...

5th class have started their final Design and Make project of the year and today, we started our research and planning. The task is to design something that would be suitable for the seafront in Bray and that uses electricity. We’re going to plan our designs using SketchUp and then build them in class. We’ve done a lot of preparation work on Design and Make and electricity. Today, we went to Bray Seafront on a research mission. We were deciding where we would place our project on the seafront and we were also evaluating what would fit in well down there. We had looked at Bray Seafront...
