In week 8, we finished off our work on our Homes unit and in week 9, we moved onto our unit about Money. We have just received some very exciting news! St. Peter’s has become the first school in Ireland to receive funding under Salesforce.org’s Circle the Schools programme. Under the scheme – originally developed in the US – St. Peter’s will receive $100,000 (€92,000) grant to upgrade it’s digital literacy, special educational needs and STEM teaching capabilities. A portion of the grant will go towards the creation of a new computer room with state of the art technology and also towards the creation of a multi-sensory room. This week, in Senior Infants, we’ve continued our unit on ‘food’. Our favourite part of the day continues to be Aistear and every day, there’s an improvement in imagination and creativity! The stages of Aistear are ‘Plan, Play, Review’ and we’ve become very good already at sharing our ideas with each other. To help us, we’ve started using Aistear copies to reflect on our learning. Welcome to our submission for the Discover Primary Science and Maths award for 2016. This is our 11th year taking part in the Awards! Once again this year we are applying for the Plaque of STEM Excellence. This award is given to schools that carry out extensive work in science, technology, engineering and maths, all of which are very important in St. Peter’s. Lately, in 5th class, we’ve been working on the skills we need to carry out investigations. Ms Whyte asked us to consider which is the best kitchen towel and to compare it with the type we use in the school already.
