Welcome to another edition of the St Peter’s Post. This week was full of Write-A-Book projects and parent-teacher meetings. We had fantastic attendance at our meetings this week and it was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the students’ progress. Write-A-Book was a great success and we were delighted to submit over 70 books for reading in other schools. Congratulations to all the boys and girls who took part! This week’s headlines: We’ve new additions to the Project Room – two terrapins. Read Codie’s blog post on them here. We are trying to think of names...

You might be wondering why the snow is back on the blog… here in St. Peter’s we’ve decided to get behind our Winter Olympic Wonders, the wonderful people competing for Ireland in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia! We live in the town of one of the greatest Irish Olympians, so it is just right that we are aware of  the talents of our Winter Olympic stars. The Winter Olympics have lots of cool (excuse the pun!) sports that you may have never even heard about! You can find out about all of the sports here – now is the time to watch sports that you have only ever tried...

‘I’m freezing!’ ‘It’s miserable out there today.’ ‘Is it ever going to stop raining?’ In Ireland, we’re all a bit weather-obsessed, but this Winter has taken things to a new level! This week, we’ve decided to embrace the obsession and to make it the focus for ‘Wednesday for Parents’. We give you a number of suggestions that are perfect to learn a bit more about how the weather works! To help out, we’ve included a list of what you’d need to carry out the experiment. Make your own frost with this experiment. You’ll...

Welcome to another edition of the St Peter’s Post. January seemed like a long month – full of activities and lots of work! Just a reminder that parent-teacher meetings take place next week – contact your child’s teacher if you haven’t received a time yet (it could be in the bottom of the schoolbag too!) The main headlines this week are: We’ve all been busy working on our Write-A-Book projects. 2nd class published some of their stories using Storybird this week. You can read them here. 5th class recorded a podcast all about their progress. Listen to it here. 6th...

There’s a couple of reasons for today’s post! The first is the horrible weather lately that’s been keeping many of us indoors. The second is the high volume of colds and stomach bugs that have been doing the rounds, also keeping many of us indoors. Finally, the Write-A-Book project has reminded many of us just how much the kids in St Peter’s love to draw! Today’s post provides a number of suggestions for drawing projects at home – we hope you find it useful! What about a daily drawing challenge? This one is a fantastic one, sourced from here.   This is...

We love reading comments on the blog! Our students are always excellent for leaving comments but over the last few weeks, there have been some fantastic ones as our students become more confident and comfortable. We love reading comments between classes praising each other’s work, especially when it’s some of the older students encouraging our younger classes. One thing that we always say about Peter’s boys and girls is that they have plenty of school spirit – we hope that shines through in some of the comments from this week! This comment from Jack in 4th class on our...

A week full of Roots of Empathy, Write a Book and podcasts for you this week! Let’s get started: Sixth class recorded an excerpt of the ‘I have a dream’ speech for Martin Luther King day. You can listen to it here. 4th class posted some astounding facts on Twitter this week about dangerous creatures. The Mermaid Theatre were very impressed:   @StPetersBray we are a bit scared of all your spidery facts! Eeek! 🙂 — Mermaid Arts Centre (@mermaidarts) January 21, 2014   2nd class had Roots of Empathy with Baby T this week. You can watch the Animoto of his visit here. Fifth...

Welcome to the 10th edition of the ‘St Peter’s Post’ and it’s absolutely packed! This week saw ‘Write A Book’ in full swing, the Virtual Science Fair continued and there were a number of fantastic podcasts. It was also a very busy week for comments on the blog – students and teachers loved reading every single one! Our Virtual Science Fair continued this week with the following projects from 6th class: This project from Billy, Keane and Kevin asks ‘Can one hand react quicker than the other?’ ‘Can we make a lightbulb light up without...

One of the very first ‘Wednesday for Parents’ posts was also one of our most popular – it listed a number of websites and online activities to help your child with place value. You can find that post here. When we planned a follow up post, fractions jumped out as an important one to cover. The activities below have been laid out so that you can choose a particular area of fractions to work on or revise, or you can choose from the games further down in the post to work on a more general area. As always, although we’ve checked out the websites, we can’t guarantee that they’re...
