Well done to Paddy and Mr Kinsella who took part in the LauraLynn Kettlebell Challenge at Shoreline Leisure, Bray last Saturday. LauraLynn is Ireland’s only children’s hospice which works with children with life-limiting conditions. It also provides residential care for young adults with disabilities. The lads managed to lift 2,000 kettle bells between them in the hour and raised much needed funds for the charity.  Many thanks to Ms. Whyte, Mr. Foley and of course Ari who came along to support them. Well done!

Before Christmas, 5th class had a Little Book Club where we read the four nominees for the BGE Book Awards Children’s Book (Junior) award to our little cousins or brothers. Well done to Ameesh, Oisín, AaronG, Alan, Johnny and especially to AaronJ for leading it. Check out our podcast discussing how we got on: Laureate na nÓg contacted us on Twitter today to let us know about the nomination process for children. We think that 5th class have already chosen their nomination – Chris Judge is highly praised by our Little Book Club. You can read more about the nomination process here. Can...

Tomorrow is World Animal Day. World Animal Day is celebrated each year on October the 4th. On this day we celebrate our animals. We have lots of pets and we love learning about different animals. We have World Animal Day because the 4th of October is the feast day of Francis of Assisi who was a lover of animals. Some people will bless their animals tomorrow. We remind everyone that animals need to be treated well and looked after with love. To celebrate World Animal Day we had peer writing and drawing with the younger and older children in school. We invented our own animals. What do you think? ps....

From early morning, it became clear that Friday wasn’t an ordinary day in St Peter’s! Staff and students raided their wardrobes for their brightest clothing and took part in Rainbow Day – a very special non-uniform day in aid of Wicklow Hospice! Each class had wonderful outfits and prizes were awarded – Abbi Douglas in 2nd class managed to wear every colour of the rainbow. 3rd class did a fantastic job of sticking to the theme – Ms Byrne had a tough job narrowing it down to just one, but TJ was the eventual winner. In 4th class, Abhishek was a worthy winner thanks...

In the first of a series of posts about the wonderful after-school clubs in St. Peter’s, we’d love to introduce you to our Singing Club! Singing Club is held in the library after-school on Thursdays. It is run by Paddy and Ms. Sexton and everyone is welcome! The group sing lots of different types of music and have sung in the RDS and in the local Gospel Rising celebration. Our favourite type of music is pop music, and we love karaoke style singing. We will be taking part in the Hallelujah Choir singing competition this year, singing in the RDS, and also...

We are in 2nd Class and this is our very first blog post on our own! We are so excited to tell you all about the great things we did to celebrate Roald Dahl Day today. Roald Dahl is one of the best children’s writers and we love his stories. We have Roald Dahl day on September 13th as that was his birthday. We remembered our favourite people and places in his books. These are some of the things we did. 1. We had a joke competition because Ms. Brennan told us that one of Roald Dahl’s famous lines is that ‘A little nonsense now and then is cherished by the wisest men!’. This...

Fifth class continued their cooking adventures with a visit to France – or at least, we cooked French toast! As we’re studying Europe this month, we’ve been trying out recipes that have European connections. This week, with the help of Paddy, we made French toast from the Keelings recipe found here. Because there were 18 of us cooking, we split into three teams. One group made the egg mixture, testing out their newfound egg-cracking skills. Another prepared the bread, the rashers and the bananas. The third group dipped the bread into the egg mixture and fried it. We served...

Fifth class baked up a storm today, filling the school with the delicious smell of chocolate cake! Our theme for the month of September is Europe, so we began our studies into European food with a Swedish chocolate cake, based on the traditional kladdkaka. The recipe below can be served with whipped cream and blueberries, but we just ate it straight from the oven!

Thanks to our friends in the Bray People for including a lovely piece about our school in today’s paper. The piece is on page two, and they have put in a picture of the staff and students on the first day of school last week, as well as a lovely picture of our new girls skipping to school on page four of the ‘First Day At School’ supplement. Make sure to pick up a copy today!
