We had great fun taking part in our recent STEM challenge. We have been learning about climate change, sustainability and also celebrated Engineers Week 2021. To bring all of our recent learning together we decided to make our own eco racers, test how they operate and race them to see what makes them travel fast and in a straight line. We think eco racers might be the future of car design because their friendly to the environment, not using fuel to operate and can be cheap to make! Before we got building, we planned our design based on the materials we knew we would be working with. It’s...

Keeping with our theme of Easter we decided to do an experiment using eggs! I laid out the materials we would be using during the experiment to aid discussing throughout (an egg, salt, a bowl of water and a spoon). First, we discussed and predicted whether an egg would float or sink when put into a bowl of water. We then put this to the test! We all predicted correctly with great ideas behind why this happened- the main one being that the egg was heavy! The children were then asked ‘how could we get this egg to float in the water?’. The children were encouraged to think...

Senior Infants have been busy working hard at home this month. We would love to show you some of our work! 🎆✨ Jacob, Jenson, Ella and Emily made these beautiful St.Brigid’s crosses on the 1st of February as it was St.Brigid’s day. We learned all about Brigid and her colourful cloak! We practised our tricky words and put them into sentences too! We had a tricky word hunt around our house to see if we could find any tricky words at home. 🕵🏼‍♀️ Tricky word detective Zoe found the words ‘all’ and ‘by’...

Snowflake! A new elf arrived in our classroom on the first of December. We decided to call him Snowflake and he played lots of different tricks on us throughout the month, what a naughty elf! Christmas treats! Every Friday we enjoyed hot cocoa and biscuits or choclate lolipops brought by snowflake. They were scrumptious! Christmas Stem! Our Christmas Stem challenge this year was to make a sled that would be able to make it from the top of the Christmas slope to the bottom without loosing its load. The load consisted of a toy horse, tissues, playdough...

We have been writing some very special letters and postcards in school recently. We were delighted to write to members of our community who are residents in local nursing homes. This year has been difficult for everyone, especially considering visits between families and friends are restricted, and we thought it might be a nice idea to share some letters to spread some happiness! We were delighted when Wicklow County Council Library Service got in touch about Project Postcard and would love to show you some of what we did! Our Post Box in the school corridor. Lots of letters and postcards...
