In St. Peter’s, we have a long history of participation in the RDS primary science events and we were delighted to continue this at Science Blast in early March. We had a fantastic day and we were delighted to share our project and our work in STEM with the Nationwide team recently. Thank you so much to Nationwide for showcasing such an important part of our school! We were at @theRDS during Science Blast in February to find about the history of the Royal Dublin Society & we met the pupils at @StPetersBray as they prepared for @esbscienceblast on #RTENationwide Friday 17th April...

Each year St Peters has a proud tradition in exploring all the rudiments of the wonderful world of STEM/Science and of entering the ESB Science Blast. This year was no different. As an innovative 6th class we have a great interest in sports and fitness and so chose to look at how we could improve our general health . Researching under the science stand of Living Things, this idea then evolved and became more specific as we looked into which type of training improves our 10 metre sprint times the most. We began the hard work in October and worked diligently over 16 training sessions...

On March 6th, 6th class took part in the first ever ESB Science Blast in the RDS. We were really proud to attend and to present our project on the science of the playground. We had a brilliant day, attending two workshops, speaking to the judges and exploring the other stands. Over the last few months, we’ve taken part in a number of investigations related to the playground. These investigations taught us a lot about slides, zip lines and surfaces, but more importantly, we learned a lot about fair testing, the process of design and make and the skills of STEM. Thanks to the RDS and ESB for...

Can we design a rollercoaster which reaches an elevation above it’s starting point (without using a motor)?  This is the question 6th class worked tirelessly to answer over the past number of weeks.  Today, a group from the class were in the RDS to present their work to the judges and a sold out audience of curious parents, teachers and children.  Here are some pictures of our project and the work we did so brilliantly today. We attracted the interest of RTE news 🙂 and we even made it on to the telly. Follow this link below and we will make our appearance at 0:51 on News Today!  Well...

6th Class took part in the RDS Young Scientist Fair once again. Our theme this year was our climate, specifically looking at the question of “Does weather affect our ability to learn in school?”. After we had agreed on the theme and question for our Science presentation, we began by making our predictions. Some of the pupils thought they weather would affect us in school. For example, Leanne thought the sound of rain is very relaxing so that in turn, might help us concentrate better in class. Abbie also made the point that sometimes people get headaches when it is too hot and that it makes...

The judge at the RDS Primary Science Fair made some lovely comments about the 6th Class project on robotics. Would you like to read his comments? ‘I knew nothing about robots or programming before coming to hear the students speak, but I certainly have learnt a lot now! A very ambitious project to get the class using programming software. I was incredibly impressed with the depth of knowledge and the understanding of how to manipulate the drag-block software and that a booklet summarising instructions for how to program the robot was produced as well. We had an amazing discussion about the...

We’re back to school with a bang! 6th Class made what has now become the annual trip to the RDS Primary Science Fair last Friday. Read all about how we got on! We made a robot for the fair. Our work started way back in November! We were busy from last Wednesday putting the finishing touches to our designed robot. We are really busy in #6thClass getting ready to present @TheRDS Primary Science Fair on Friday! We built a robot! pic.twitter.com/TzQqSA80ab — St. Peter’s Primary (@StPetersBray) January 6, 2016 A busy morning putting finishing touches on our Science Fair project to...

On Friday 9/1/15, 6th Class took their RDS Primary Science Fair project to the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition. We had an amazing day, and tweeted throughout! We were delighted to be accepted to exhibit. Care to catch up on the day that was? Have a read here! We made a wesbite to present our data and project. That website can be found here. We also got nominated for an Eircom Junior Spider Award for the website we created to present our project. We got to visit Facebook for the day and attend an amazing awards ceremony! Read about that day here.
