In March, Dylan and Adem (3rd Class) and Kyra and Carla (2nd Class) made their way on the Dart to the Royal Irish Academy of Music, in Dublin City Centre. They had worked hard every Tuesday for months, after school, on their poem, mime, story, reading and theory, in preparation for their Grade 1 and Grade 2, Speech and Drama exams. After the exam, Dylan, Adem, Kyra and Carla enjoyed some treats in a lovely little cafe beside the Academy, before hopping on the Dart back to Bray. Their results arrived last week and all 4 of the boys and girls did incredibly well! They should be SO proud of themselves...

Senior Infants have been taking part in an after-school club based on STEM. Carl Dempsey from Salesforce has been helping out with the club and we’ve really enjoyed welcoming him to our classroom. All of the sessions were based on nursery rhymes or fairytales. We measured this tower and it was the tallest! Session 1 was based on Humpty Dumpty and materials. Humpty Dumpty likes to sit on high structures so we got into groups and built walls as high as we could. The walls had to stand by themselves by the end of the five minutes. We learned a lot about what makes structures sturdy –...

The June 15th singing club party was a sad occasion as 3 boys attended the after school club for the last time. Carl Iacob, Tommy Lang and Jordan Farrell said goodbye to the rest of the group and wished them well as they will soon be departing for Secondary School. Tommy and Jordan in particular, have been members since they were in 2nd Class and both have rarely missed a singing club over the years. They both went to all Hallelujah Concerts and have been instrumental in what songs we have sung. Tommy said “My favourite memory is the last singing club party. Everybody was up dancing and everyone...

Throughout the year, Dylan and Adem of Ms. Fry’s second class, completed Speech and Drama lessons every week with Ms. Farren. They worked so hard at their lessons and at home and were ready in March 2016 to make their journey to the Royal Irish Academy in Westland Row, to complete their Grade 1 Speech and Drama exam. Dylan and Adem in the Royal Irish Academy. The boys had practiced and prepared their poem, mime, storytelling skills, reading and theory to present to the examiner in the Academy. She was particularly impressed with their story ‘Bedtime’ by Hugh O’Brien and...

We were all very excited that Lego Club started back this week! This year we are taking part in an international competition called the First Lego League. As part of the competition we will be looking at three different things – A Trash Trek Project, A Robot Game and The First Lego League Core Values. This week we started building our models that will be used for our robot game. We worked in teams to make Models no. 1, 2, 3 and 4 using the instructions on the laptops. Next week we will continue making the rest of the models. We also hope to have our new Lego table made, set up for next week’s...

Over the last two weeks in Make-It Club, first and second class explored lots of different reusable materials to make junk-art robots out of. They worked in groups of five to design and make robots out of recycling from home. They used Easter egg boxes, egg cartons, milk cartons, bottle caps, scraps of string, pipe cleaners, paint strips, tinfoil and pretty much anything else that they could find in their recycling boxes. They worked so well in teams, with everybody having a part to play and even had better imaginations than their teachers when it came to using different items for different parts....

Today in Make-it club, our first and second class budding artists stepped back in time to create some Medieval bunting flags for the Wicklow Arts Festival! All we needed was a chopped up bedsheet for our material, lots of markers, a couple of homemade stencils and some historical inspiration. We are very proud of our end results and they will be tied together and put on display in Wicklow Town on the 23rd and 24th of May as a part of the Wicklow Arts Festival! Today, first and second class had great fun getting creative with sand art in Make-it club. We used large coloured chalk to change the colour of sand (well, salt actually!). It was fun to see the colour changing but we had to try really hard to keep it on our pages. Then Ms. Byrne, Ms. Sexton and Ms. Fry all helped us to pour the colours into our bottles using funnels. We worked as a team to decide which order to put the colours in and helped to tilt the funnel to make different patterns! Our bottles were looking pretty well and when we finished them we decided to stick a nice message on them...
