The sixth annual Darkness Into Light fundraising event got underway at 4.15am on Saturday morning, 10th May as an estimated 80,000 people turned out for dawn walks at 37 locations across the country and two venues overseas. Crowds of families, friends, school children, work colleagues and even dogs walked and ran a 5km route in locations from Cork City to Letterkenny, Galway City to our very own Bray Town, in solidarity with those who had lost loved ones to suicide. Darkness Into Light has grown phenomenally over the years, from 200 people walking in the Phoenix Park in 2009 to 80,000 people taking...

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of using online resources to improve maths among our students – previous Wednesday for Parents topics have covered place value and fractions and we’ve been really involved in the Mathletes Challenge using Khan Academy. We also use online resources to revise and learn more about other subjects – and today we’re focusing on SESE (Social, Environmental and Scientific Education) which is the name in the curriculum for History, Geography and Science. Although there are many good websites for world history and geography out there...

Welcome to another edition of our online weekly newsletter – the St Peter’s Post! This week, we’ve been looking forward to the next few weeks – 2nd and 6th class are preparing for Communion and Confirmation and we’ve started recruiting for the choir for the Communion ceremony. We were also very busy on Twitter this week! The main headlines from this week are: We were sent the video marking our win at the Junior Spiders from the organisers during the week. If you haven’t seen it yet, we’d love you to watch it here. Our new student council had their first...

The weather over the Easter holidays reminded us all that Summer is on the way and this week’s Wednesday for Parents focuses on getting healthy as we all finally come out of hibernation and crawl out from under the duvet! We were delighted to see our students arrive back after the holidays looking fresh and healthy after all the playing outdoors. One of our priorities in St Peter’s is to encourage healthy living amongst our students  – mainly thanks to Paddy! Along with our PE sessions, we’re lucky to welcome Tommy, our GAA coach, in on Fridays. We also have weekly athletic...

Welcome to our online weekly newsletter – our first St Peter’s Post of the third term. It’s been a very exciting week in St Peter’s and we’re sure that everyone by now has heard that good things come in twos! On Tuesday, we were over the moon to be awarded two awards in the Eircom Junior Spiders… and then on Thursday, we were over the moon to hear of two new arrivals to the St Peter’s family. Congratulations to Ms Whyte and Mr Vance  on the birth of their beautiful baby daughters! So let’s get stuck in to the headlines of the week: On Tuesday,...

Welcome to our weekly online newsletter – the St Peter’s Post! We’d a really exciting week with the arrival of Scientific Sue. We were delighted to welcome five local schools to see Sue in action and they were all really impressed by Sue and by our beautiful school! It was lovely to be able to share our prize with them and we’re very grateful to Engineers Ireland for organising it. Here are the week’s headlines: You can read all about Scientific Sue’s visit here! We’re now on our Easter holidays – 3rd class had great fun yesterday at their Easter...

‘Wednesday for Parents’ returns to one of our most popular types of posts this week – what’s on over the school holidays! Hopefully there’ll be lovely weather over the two weeks so we’ve included a nice mixture of indoor and outdoor activities. The Mermaid Theatre in Bray has a number of events for children over the Easter break. They’re screening (the original) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Sunday 13th April at 2pm. Tickets cost €5 and can be booked here. Then, on the 15th and 16th April, the Mermaid welcome spellbinding Children’s Theatre...

Welcome to our weekly online newsletter – the St. Peter’s Post! We’ve quite a short edition this week – but we’ve an excellent excuse! It was papier-mâché central in St Peter’s this week and we’re very egg-cited to unveil it next week. Students and staff struggled to blog with paste-covered hands – hence the lack of documentation! We’ve a big week ahead however, and we can’t wait to show off our newly decorated corridor. We have lots of big news though this week – it was a great week for us! Here are the week’s headlines: We...

You may have seen in an earlier post today that we’re currently taking part in a handwriting competition. Today’s ‘Wednesday for Parents’ suggests a number of links that may be useful to you if your child needs extra help to improve their handwriting. As always, your experience is invaluable and we’d love to hear your tips for helping with handwriting. Let us know in the comments! Our first link this evening comes from NALA and is absolutely excellent. We’ve featured content from NALA before and their work is always of high quality. This publication is called...

We’re delighted to be taking part in the INTO District 8 Handwriting Awards this term. We have decided to combine our entries with Mr. Curran’s Handwriting Awards! Mr. Curran retired from our school last year and to remember him and his love of handwriting, we set up a handwriting competition. Many of you will be taking part in the competition in the next two weeks, so we decided that it would make sense to share the rules of the competition on the blog, in case some of you are working on your entries at home! Remember, entries are judged on ‘style, flair, neatness and layout’...
