On Thursday morning, there was great excitement in St. Peter’s when we heard that Martin O’Neill, manager of the Irish soccer team, would be visiting! We were delighted to welcome him to St Peter’s, where he took part in a press conference and answered some of our questions. He had great advice about believing in ourselves and working hard to practise our football skills. Afterwards, 6th class and some of 5th demonstrated a drill for him and had the chance to shake his hand. Judging by the levels of excitement, it was a day not to be forgotten. A big thanks to Martin O’Neill,...

As part of Operation Transformation we decided to get the whole school involved and take part in the 10@10. This involved getting students and teachers taking part in 10 minutes of activity at 10 o’clock on the 10th of February. As you can see from the photos and videos we all had great fun and will be introducing it as a regular event in the school! http://www.stpetersbrayblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/VID-20170210-WA0015.mp4

Last Friday, we had a new twist on an old tradition on St Peter’s – the Mini-World Cup! You can read all about last year’s Mini-World Cup here. This year, we had three Mini World Cup tournaments – Junior and Senior Infants played in the morning, 1st and 2nd classes played between break and lunchtime and the older classes had their tournament after lunch. Here are a few photos and Vines from the day – and you can read more about the infant classes and their tournament here.

Today everyone in the senior end of school started work on the Athletics strand in the curriculum. It was a brilliant way to kick start the second part of term! Check out our latest vines! Here we are enjoying a training session with Irish international, Karen Duggan! Remember, even though winter is coming – stay fit, active and healthy!

The weather over the Easter holidays reminded us all that Summer is on the way and this week’s Wednesday for Parents focuses on getting healthy as we all finally come out of hibernation and crawl out from under the duvet! We were delighted to see our students arrive back after the holidays looking fresh and healthy after all the playing outdoors. One of our priorities in St Peter’s is to encourage healthy living amongst our students  – mainly thanks to Paddy! Along with our PE sessions, we’re lucky to welcome Tommy, our GAA coach, in on Fridays. We also have weekly athletic...

The famous Irish gymnast Kieran Behan! Picture from gymnasticsireland.com! Hi, I’m Archie in 6th Class and I do gymnastics. It is very fun if that is the thing you like doing. It challenges you to stay fit, flexible and focused! The stretches are hard depending on how flexible you are. Personally, I find them hard. You do all training exercises as you do in most sports. Gymnastics is very good for parkour, as they are basically the same thing. I joined gymnastics to improve my parkour skills and become better at it. I do gymnastics up in Ballyogan. The name of the gym is Trojan. There are about...

As you all know, 2nd Class have been lucky enough to have dancing every Wednesday this year. They have loved taking part and they are really grateful to their lovely teacher Sue! Dancing is great fun and helps us to keep fit! We love doing it for PE. Just for some fun, we decided to learn a little bit about Riverdance, the famous dance from the Eurovision. It was cool to look at the video and imagine what it is like to dance in front of loads of people all over the world. The music is excellent and was written by a man called Bill Whelan. Would you like to see us give it a goal at assembly? Have...

Even though the weather today was AWFUL, 5th class still managed to cover activities in the Outdoor and Adventure Activities strand of the PE curriculum… Although we didn’t quite brave outdoors! The PE curriculum covers six strands: Dance Games Gymnastics Athletics Aquatics Outdoor and Adventure Activities Every week, Paddy organises athletics with each class. Today, he set up a teamwork challenge for us. You can watch our video here. We had to try to get from one end of the hall to the other, using two mats, without touching the floor. Our follow-up activity was a maze of cones and...

In St. Peters we do lots of sports like GAA, Football and Hurling. Our trainers are Tommy, Mary, Paddy and Carl. All of us love sports and we train in the back yard. Every year we enter tournaments. The most recent tournament we entered was the Coughlin Cup in football. Paddy is the one that enters us into the tournaments. Our school also enters local athletics competitions. Some of the boys have even won medals at cross country. We love to run and do relay running in the yard every week. During PE we play hockey, basketball, Olympic handball, bench ball, rounders, baseball, tennis and rugby. Our...
