2nd Class have been learning about where Wicklow is on the map. We’re learning about counties that are near to us, and comparing our county to other counties and places in Ireland! We knew of some of the names of other places but we wanted to get even better at knowing places from all over Ireland. Today, during Golden Time we recorded a poem that we found online. It’s a fun rhyme to help us to learn the names of all of the counties in Ireland. Have a listen up above to hear what we have to say! ps. We helped out a famous VIP with Irish roots who was struggling to learn all of the...

As you all know, Polly came back from her holidays last week. She had visited our friends in St. Brigid’s in Greystones! When she arrived back, she brought her friend Bridget the Bee! Bridget has come on her holidays to us now! She is having a great time. We wanted to let people know what they are getting up to, so Codie and his helpers followed Polly and Bridget around the school to catch up on their goings-on! Polly showed Brigid around the library and the computer room. They even climbed onto our model dinosaur! They helped to serve coco during lunch and played the bongos for 2nd class! Brigid...

2nd Class just LOVE learning poems. Today we had great fun looking back on all of the poems we have learned this year. We like funny poems that we can entertain people with. Poetry helps with our reading and our speaking. It is also a challenge to remember all of the lines. This year we have had fun with Limericks, learned scary Halloween poems and got into the festive spirit with Christmas poems too.  Our latest poem is called ‘Oh, I Wish I’d Looked After Me Teeth!’ and it was written by Pam Ayres. You can hear her read the poem here! Even better still, listen to our recording...

2nd Class are reading Zac Power, Frozen Fear. It is a really adventurous book with lots of twists and turns! We are trying to get better at remembering every detail in the books we read. We decided to do lots of mini podcasts about this book as we work through it. This should help us with our homework. Remember, so far this year we have been working on 1. Predicting, 2. Making connections, 3. Creating images, 4. Inferring, 5. Putting it all together. Now we are working on re-reading! Have a listen to our podcast to keep up with Zac Power, Frozen Fear! Remember, you can catch our previous podcasts...

You might remember that in last term, we took part in the #anfomhar twitter project for autumn.  It is a collaborative project, organised by one of our favourite websites Seomra Ranga. We blogged about it here, here and here! This week we took part in the #antearrach project. We shared all of the ‘signs of spring’ that we could find in school and our area. We got to learn from other schools and saw/heard/read about their #antearrach projects. On Tuesday morning, 2nd Class made a podcast all about spring! Afterwards, they went out for a nature walk! Here they are, exploring the area. Meanwhile...

2nd Class are exploring different ways of learning facts from our History, Geography and Science work. We like to be active learners and learn from doing! As you have seen before we have used podcasting for Geography, building for Science and video apps for History, to name but a few things we have tried out. This week we have been learning about the Titanic. We decided to use a new app that our friend Seomra Ranga suggested. It is a news app called NewsBooth. It makes it look like we are news reporters! It helps us to learn off facts like journalists. We imagined that we were reporting on the...

2nd Class have been learning about the first Moon Landing in History. In July 1969, three American men set off in their spaceship Apollo 11. They wanted to get to the moon. Their names were Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins and Neil Armstrong. They had a landing craft called Eagle. They wore special spacesuits on the moon so that they could breathe. Neil Armstrong said ‘That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’ when he walked on the moon. He bounced and walked in a funny way because there is only 1/6 of the Earth’s gravity on the Moon. It has become one of the...
