Hi, it’s Rowan from third class here. I had loads of fun doing my Toontastic project. It took a long time but I enjoyed it. The characters are Jody, Alisa, Wolf Mann , Gue Monster, the ghost and mum. It’s a cartoon about when Alisa gets a goal when playing football and she goes really crazy. Then her brother Jody gets mad. He gets even madder when Alisa accidentally pushes him down a magic hole into a scary place. I hope you enjoy it because I enjoyed making it! Over the last two weeks in Make-It Club, first and second class explored lots of different reusable materials to make junk-art robots out of. They worked in groups of five to design and make robots out of recycling from home. They used Easter egg boxes, egg cartons, milk cartons, bottle caps, scraps of string, pipe cleaners, paint strips, tinfoil and pretty much anything else that they could find in their recycling boxes. They worked so well in teams, with everybody having a part to play and even had better imaginations than their teachers when it came to using different items for different parts....

Welcome to our submission for the Discover Primary Science and Maths award for 2015. This is our 10th year taking part in the Awards! This year we are applying for the Plaque of STEM Excellence, a new award which is given to schools that carry out extensive work in science, technology, engineering and maths, all of which are very important in St. Peter’s. The other big change this year is that it is the first time we will have had Junior and Senior Infants taking part in the award! It is great to see the young scientists have so much fun learning about Science and Maths. As this is a...

On Friday 9/1/15, 6th Class took their RDS Primary Science Fair project to the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition. We had an amazing day, and tweeted throughout! We were delighted to be accepted to exhibit. Care to catch up on the day that was? Have a read here! We made a wesbite to present our data and project. That website can be found here. We also got nominated for an Eircom Junior Spider Award for the website we created to present our project. We got to visit Facebook for the day and attend an amazing awards ceremony! Read about that day here.

For the Discover Primary Science and Maths Award, Fourth Class chose to investigate “themselves”! We did three experiments, with all three based on our own body. The first was to examine our own fingerprints, the second was to determine which of our eyes was the dominant one, and the final experiment was to see if we could find our blind spot. To begin, we started talking about how everybody is different in the world, and how every single fingerprint in the world is different. This means it is a great piece of evidence for the gardaí when a crime is committed because it can help them...

Here in 5th class we were lucky enough to have a fish tank in our room for a 6 weeks, with lots of different types of sea creatures. We spent the month learning all about the oceans and how we can look after them. This was an opportunity for us to learn lots about water. One of the most exciting things we looked at was water pressure. Pressure is the force that pushes water through pipes. Water pressure determines the flow of water from the tap. Using the strand Energy and Forces we tested how water pressure would be affected as it flowed through various size openings. What we needed: • 6 Large...
