In October, a video showing the history of Ireland in 6 minutes took the Internet by storm. We posted it here on our blog and 5th class were so impressed by it that we contacted John Ruddy, the maker of the video, to ask him if he’d do a quick Q&A on animation. We have a really exciting project coming up in the New Year related to Science and Animation, and Leon and Eduard already showed off their stop-motion skills as part of Culture Night here. John Ruddy kindly agreed to answer any questions and we started thinking about the questions we wanted to know about animation. We were interested...

Today in 6th class we were working on our Mini-Scientist project. We were planning out our experiments on our report book template. We wrote down what we knew about our projects and did research to find out more information. We created a podcast using Soundcloud and spoke about our project. Ian Lawless interviewed the lot of us. The Bray Lions Club and The Paws Project held another peace poster competition. There were around two-hundred and forty entrants. I was really lucky to be chosen as one of the ten winners. Last night, myself, my Dad and Ms. Whyte went up to St. Cronan’s B.N.S. to collect my prize. My Dad and Ms. Whyte were really proud of me. It was a great night and my Dad bought me a tub of ice-cream and Pringles to celebrate! By Patryk Ostapczuk The Peter’s staff and student body would like to congratulate Patryk on such a fantastic achievement. A special word of thanks to Ms. Whyte, Patryk’s teacher!

We have finished our second book of the year. We really liked our latest book called The Magic Finger. Roald Dahl wrote it. We have now read two Roald Dahl books. The first one was called The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me. We recorded a podcast about that here. Why not check out our podcast about The Magic Finger now? Well done to Dean for doing a great job presenting the podcast. We are proud of you. [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/119915447″ width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

St Peter’s is proud to have students of different nationalities and cultures. Today, we have a recording of Ameesh saying a poem. [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/119154332″ width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /] This is a book that my dad learned from when he was in school in India. The language is Tamil. The poem I say in the podcast is about a toy. My dad taught me the poem. The boys in the class asked me to teach them it too.

We had brilliant fun on Wednesday. To celebrate Science Week 2013, we made a human piano with 2nd, 5th and 6th class! We made it using a makey makey board and a scratch game. Check out our video! We’re so pleased with it. Archie, Patryk and Edward did a brilliant job presenting. The start of the video is an explanation and 2.38 is where the real music kicks in. A 35 person human piano… it’s possible! from St Peter’s, Bray on Vimeo.

On Monday a new noticeboard went up on our corridor. Mr. Foley gave us an answer and we had to guess the question. The whole school including the teachers were allowed to guess the question, except for Mr. Foley because he knows what the question is. We were told that the answer was “Blue”. There were many guesses put up on the noticeboard. On Tuesday we got a clue that it was related to “The Simpsons”, after Ian Lawless (6th Class) gave the closest question on Monday.  The six people that guessed it correctly were Mason, Ryan, Luke, Alan (all in 4th Class), Billy and Jamie...

We made lava lamps. It was so cool! We wanted to do them because we saw that 3rd Class did them last year. You can see their work here. Why don’t you see our video? Later we will put up two more videos, our makey makey board and our volcanoes! Lava Lamps for Science Week 2013! from St Peter’s, Bray on Vimeo.

On the 8th of November, a GAA tournament for fifth and sixth classes took place in Bray Emmets GAA Club. There were six local schools involved. Our first match was against St. Fergal’s B team and we floored them with a whopping three goals and one point! Our second match was against Bray School Project and we scraped through with a one goal lead. After another win against St. Fergal’s A team, we left the stadium delighted and victorious. It was a great tournament and we would like to thank Paddy for all his hard work. Thanks also to Ms. Whyte and Ms. Sexton for letting the boys go. By...

In St Peter’s, we try to use real life examples for work on reading comprehension skills. This includes newspaper articles, websites, recipes and instruction manuals. Last week, in 5th class, Ms Sexton gave each group of four in the class a kit with flower bulbs, soil and flowerpots. We had to follow the instructions carefully – different bulbs needed to stick out of the soil at different heights. We also had to place them in a cold, dark place for the first few weeks. After a lot of brainstorming, Ryan suggested Les’s room. We have to remember to water them every week. Here’s...
