On such a beautiful day, can you think of anything nicer to do than spend part of the morning gardening? Prepare to be very envious of our Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 2nd class students who started their Incredible Edibles project 2015 by planting a great selection of vegetables, fruit and potatoes. 2nd class had studied what to do in advance and prepared their vocabulary and each pairing from 2nd class worked with a small group from the infant classes to share their skills. Yesterday, we got a very exciting package in the post – it was the planting pack from AgriAware. We love taking part in the AgriAware Incredible Edibles project every year. You can see our planting post from last year here. This year, Oisín was our photographer and he captured all the fun of the afternoon. We took the opportunity to plant immediately because we’ve been dodging raindrops all week so we were delighted to get some dry weather yesterday afternoon! This week has been Science Week around the country! In St Peter’s, we’re famous for our involvement in scientific activities and events, and this week was no exception. 4th, 5th and 6th were busy with their projects for the Mini-Scientist, and other classes got stuck in with a variety of enjoyable activities! Here is an update on how our fruit and vegetables are growing in our classroom. We went to Lidl to buy compost and ended up adding to our collection. We bought a coffee plant, a rhubarb plant, a banana plant and a strawberry plant (in case our strawberry plants didn’t arrive in time).

Sixth class are taking part in the Incredible Edibles project, organised by Agri Aware. You can find out more information about the project at http://agriaware.ie/incredibleedibles. Over the next two months, they will be completing a number of tasks related to growing fruit and vegetables. Task one was to plant the five Incredible Edibles. Pearse and Tautvydas planted potato seeds in bags.
