In Ms. Mitchell’s class we were so excited to find out what was going to happen next in The Twit’s so we read THREE chapters of the book today! We all took turns reading and listening carefully to the story. Mr. Twit was trying to help Mrs. Twit grow taller by stretching her. He tied her ankles to a ring in the ground and then he tied her neck and wrists to 60 gas filled balloons.  Mr. Twit planned to leave her there for a few days but then he had a different idea. He cut the  strings on her ankles and Mrs. Twit went up into the sky like a rocket! Mrs. Twit was very clever and she...

Sixth class have been creating beautiful artwork with their teacher Ms Hughes lately – did you see their planets? This week, they used charcoal to draw famine ships. Check out their fantastic artwork below. Sixth class would like to really thank Ms Hughes for all her work with them over the last few weeks – we hope we see you soon!

On Monday St. Kieran’s visited St. Peter’s for the second time this year to take play a friendly football match.  Both teams had children from different classes and a special mention goes to the girls on each team who ran rings around the boys! Kathleen and Kelly Anne for St. Kieran’s and Abbi for St. Peter’s  played brilliantly. The result was a draw in the end with both schools winning one match each. The next time the schools will meet will be on Monday the 28th of April! We can’t wait for our next set of matches. Thanks to Paddy, the best coach ever! By the boys...

A couple of weeks ago, we were thrilled and excited to get news that we’d won a prize from STEPS for our work during Engineer’s Week. Sam, AaronG, LukeOB and Davy from 5th class had seen Scientific Sue in action at the Intel Regional Finals of the Mini-Scientist and they raised the excitement levels by telling everyone how cool her show was! You can check out her website here – we highly recommend her show! One of the coolest things about the prize was that we were allowed to invite other schools to join in the fun. The first session of the day was at 9.45.

Last night, four of our students went to Killiney Castle Hotel for the Write A Book awards! Casey from 2nd class, Luke from 4th, Ben from 5th and Kyle from 6th were very excited to receive their medals and certificates from Pat Seaver from the Blackrock Education Centre and Mary Mitchell O’Connor, TD. Casey’s story was called ‘Bullies Never Win’ and had a beautiful theme of friendship and loyalty. You can read her story here. Luke’s story was called ‘The Dwarven City of Dishea’ – a story to give the Hobbit a run for its money! Ben’s story was...

In March we did a LOT of work on data during our maths lessons. We found out that data is showing information in lots of different ways. We used pictograms, tally charts and bar charts. Bar charts were our favourites ( “Yum” said Adam!) We worked in teams of 2 to ask the whole school what was their favourite break time fruit? They could choose between an apple, orange or banana. We made tally charts in our copies when we asked each class. Next we went back to our class and made bar charts from the information. Then we made giant posters to show every class’s choice of fruit. We...

We got a very exciting Tweet on Saturday evening from Sean O’Sullivan, who launched Mathletes with Ciaran Cannon, a Minister for State in the Department of Education. You might know Sean O’Sullivan from the programme ‘Dragons Den’ and he’s famous around the world as an inventor, an entrepreneur and an investor. We’re big fans of Khan Academy and Mathletes and we’ve posted two updates since we’ve started here and here. So, what did it say in the Tweet? Overall best @MATHletes_ie primary school in Leinster (from Bray, Wicklow) St Peter’s Primary #GoMathletes —...

Today, the senior Gaelic football team took part in a blitz in Ballinakill, the new Centre of Excellence near Rathdrum. We were delighted to be runners-up in the blitz today! Our first match was against Kilbride. We won by one point. Jordan Whyte scored the first goal of the day for St Peter’s. We lost our second match to Donard. Ben Gorman showcased his skill in that game by dummying the ball. We played Kilmacanogue in our third match and we won. Dylan Kane scored a cracker of a goal. He took his bounce, his steps, then a solo then hammered it past the keeper. Ballinakill is deadly –...

This week Johnny, Arturas, Nathan K  and Ryan  made huge improvements in their spellings and tables tests. They are working hard to be the best and we know that they are doing their learning homework every night. Ms. Whyte popped in to our room to  congratulate the boys and give them  all prize stickers. Well Done boys, keep it up!

We celebrated Daffodil Day today by making our own daffodils! They are very easy to make, you could  even try it at home! Here’s Ryan to tell you “How to”! “We got a yellow piece of card and we traced our hands with pencil. Next we cut out our hand prints. Then we folded them in the middle and put the straws in  the middle too. We sellotaped the straw inside. After that we added green leaves to the stem. We are going to give them to our Mam’s for Mother’s day on Sunday because they are so beautiful!”
