Last Friday 6th Class had an amazing day. After a long time working on our Budget project, we presented our project to the Minister of State Simon Harris! Simon is our local TD and we were delighted to welcome him to our school.

Before we began our project, we learned all about local and national politics. This took a lot of time! We were really proud of of all we learned.

Next, we broke up into groups. We decided that Sadbh should be our Taoiseach and Sam should be our Tánaiste. Then they picked Ministers. Ministers are the people who run different departments. Our Ministers then decided what they wanted the Minister for Finance to spend the State money on. We wrote and recorded our Budget submissions. Here they are!

Leon was the Minister for Finance. He had to sit and listen to the submissions. He then went to work with his Department Officials to decide how to spent the money and he wrote the budget!

On the big day we delivered the Budget in style!

We had a brilliant day. We tweeted all about it!

Simon tweeted too!

We can’t wait to visit Leinster House and see Simon and his colleagues at work!

Here are some more videos from the day! We hope you enjoy them!

We’ll post lots of more video footage next week!

Ps. Thanks to Simon for sending a lovely piece about our school and class to the Wicklow Times!

What a brilliant, brilliant blog post. So much information presented in so many different formats. You must have really enjoyed the whole experience of learning about how the Irish government work. Well done 6th class and a round of applause to your teacher.
