We celebrated Daffodil Day today by making our own daffodils!

They are very easy to make, you could  even try it at home!

Here’s Ryan to tell you “How to”!

“We got a yellow piece of card and we traced our hands with pencil.

Next we cut out our hand prints.

Then we folded them in the middle and put the straws in  the middle too.

We sellotaped the straw inside.

After that we added green leaves to the stem.

We are going to give them to our Mam’s for Mother’s day on Sunday because they are so beautiful!”

Yesterday, we got a very exciting package in the post – it was the planting pack from AgriAware. We love taking part in the AgriAware Incredible Edibles project every year. You can see our planting post from last year here.

This year, Oisín was our photographer and he captured all the fun of the afternoon. We took the opportunity to plant immediately because we’ve been dodging raindrops all week so we were delighted to get some dry weather yesterday afternoon!

We’ll keep you updated on the progress of our plants. We grew spring flowers earlier in the year, which turned out really well so we hope we have green fingers!

As you know, we have had a VIP visitor in St. Peter’s since before St. Patrick’s Day.

Brigid came to visit us, and we were curious about what kind of a bee she was ever since our Polly got an invitation to visit her! It was lovely when she came to stay and play with Polly. This morning when we came in, she was gone! She has flown back to Greystones. Thanks to our friends in St. Bridget’s for allowing her to visit us. They are the best bloggers and tweeters! We loved having Bridget to stay. Here a send off podcast for Bridget.

I have been working with Mr. Kinsella to make a stop motion animation. First we planned our story and then we wrote it. After I corrected and edited it we made a list of everything we needed to make it.

Filming started last week and we hope to have it finished before Easter and up on the blog.

In the meantime I hope you enjoy the trailer!

WED PARENTSToday we want to direct your attention to the Scoilnet site – and in particular, the section for parents on the Scoilnet site! The Scoilnet site hosts a variety of articles and activities for students, parents and teachers. For parents, there are articles on topical issues, information on special needs and links to information from the Department of Education. You can access the parents homepage here.

scoilnet

To introduce you to the parents section on Scoilnet, we’ve chosen three links that might be of interest!

  1. This is the ‘Focus on’ section – an archive of all the topics they’ve covered in the past.
  2. This link leads to general information on special educational needs.
  3. This link leads to talking books in Irish – perfect for helping your child to practise their Irish!

Let us know what you find and what you recommend!

As always, you can find all previous ‘Wednesday for Parents’ posts here.

Hi bloggers around the world, today we found out that one of the boys in our class won the Write a Book Project for our class. We have been waiting a long time to hear who the winner was. It was Luke C and he gets to go to a hotel in Killiney next Monday at 5pm to collect his prize. Luke was VERY HAPPY when he found out that he was the winner. Everybody in the class gave him a big round of applause. He is allowed to bring two guests with him to the presentation. Mr. Foley and another guest are going  to the presentation with him.

The name of his book was “The Dwarven City of Dishea”. His book will be displayed outside the class along with the other entries when they are returned back to our school.

There will be 3 runners-up prizes for our class. We haven’t received the names of these winners yet. We are very excited to see who won.

In other quick news from our class, we performed an Irish poem last Friday to the school. We will put this up on the blog soon. After a long time, we finally reached our attendance prize. We now have 114 greens and are closing in on last year’s record!

By Alan, Alex, Calvin, Ryan, Abhishek, Mason, Dylan M, Jack B, Tommy, Stephen, Dylan and of course Luke C!

On Wednesday we had some very kind and helpful visitors in our room. Some of the wonderful parents at St. Peter’s came in to see us and show us some wonderful fun ways to use maths!
Adam loved Uno and Jordan tried very hard to beat him!
Nathan O’B and Nathan K especially loved the shark picture on the tessellating shapes.
Johnny and Lorcan tried to make their shapes quicker than everyone else!
We loved our Maths For Fun and can’t wait for the next one!
