Daniel O’Connell

6th Class have been learning about Daniel O’Connell in History. Last Friday (during Golden Time!) we decided to have a little bit of fun as we looked back over all we learned. Step up Oisín, quizmaster extraordinaire! The rest is history! Enjoy the Rapid-Fire-Daniel-O’-Connell-quiz-time!

Last Monday morning, when Jerry and Nathan from 2nd class went to the classroom library to choose a book, they noticed something very unusual – a penguin!

We spent the day wondering what was going on and asking everyone who came into the classroom if they were responsible for leaving him there. On Tuesday, we noticed that the penguin had moved and found himself the letter P. It turned out he was trying to tell us something!

The mystery was solved during Tuesday morning when our good friend, Summer Buzz, tweeted us to ask how her little friend was getting on! Suddenly it made sense why we found the penguin in the library – Buzz loves to read! She told us that Páidí loves to read and to make friends and that he wouldn’t get up to too many tricks if we kept him occupied with books! Tristan started the ball rolling by reading to Páidí during breaktime…

When it was time to head home. Lana and Ava made Páidí comfortable for the night with a cushion and a book.

On Wednesday morning, something very exciting happened! Páidí got post from Summer Buzz. We guessed it was from Buzz because of the cool stickers on the outside of the envelope!

Inside, we found a letter to Páidí and lots of stickers of Buzz for Páidí to give out whenever our class read to him or write about him. Buzz also wrote that she hopes that 2nd class will write little notes to Páidí and to Buzz. We’ve set up an envelope for all our notes to Buzz. Maddy started us off this afternoon with a lovely letter to Buzz, reassuring her that we’re taking good care of Páidí.

We even put a sticker on Páidí to remind us to read to him whenever we get a chance.2014-12-04 10.46.01

Patrick, Des and Emanuele found a poem in ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ about penguins. Maybe we should learn it tomorrow so that we can pretend to be penguins and stop Páidí from getting homesick?

Ms Whyte suggested that her elf at home gets up to mischief when he gets hungry so we think we need to learn more about penguins so that we know how to take care of him. Do you know where penguins live?

We can’t wait to see what Páidí gets up to next!

Daniel tries an orange.

Junior Infants have been learning lots about food over the past few weeks. We have learned what foods are good for us and we should eat lots of, and what foods we should only eat as a special treat. One morning during Aistear we tried different types of fruit!

Some of us were really brave and tried all the fruit! Some of us tried fruit that we didn’t like and realised it was suprisingly yummy!

Cian, Aysha berries

Cian tries some blueberries and Aysha tries some raspberries.

We learned that berries have something called Vitamin C in them which helps you not get a cold!

At the moment, 2nd class are covering Emotions as their theme in Roots of Empathy. We had a visit from Baby M last week and we couldn’t get over how much she has changed in just a few weeks! We made a podcast about her visit and an Animoto of our pictures from her visit. Well done to Anthony who led his first podcast!

Where did that time go? It’s hard to believe that we’re thinking about the Christmas performances already!

This year our performance schedule is slightly different, to reflect the fact that we have three new classes!

Junior and Senior Infants will prepare a play together, First and Second Class will prepare a play together and Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class will perform individual class plays. Not only that, they will also perform the annual Roald Dahl musical as a large group together!

This year, our Roald Dahl musical is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Everyone got a chance to audition for parts, and we were delighted to hear Mr. Foley announce who will play which part during an announcement in the hall today!

We tweeted the news as it came in!

Bring on rehearsals in the hall! LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
