As you will all know by now, our school is participating in the Creative Schools programme. We are excited to be moving to the next stage of the programme after working hard to collect information from students, parents and staff about what creativity means to each group, how we already take part in creative activities and what we can do to improve our school’s approach to creativity. A huge thank you to all for your responses, they have been really helpful in deciding how we should move forward in the programme! Our students are currently considering the possibility of creating...

First class were so lucky to get a visit from Bex to help us think more about creativity. Firstly, Bex made this gorgeous ‘Creativitree’ with us to get us thinking about creativity: If you look closely you can see how we are creative: Bex then helped us to make tinfoil butterflies on her next visit: During the week 1st class were learning about hot air balloons, we decided to make our construction of a hot air balloon more creative by all making our own unique baskets to put onto them. Take a look at our constructions: We...

St. Peter’s have done it again! We have been successful in achieving the Creative Schools Award for 2014. We’re sure you have noticed all of the great work the children have been doing with Stop Motion Animation over the past year, and you weren’t alone! The Association for Creativity and Arts in Education who organise the Creative Schools Award think we are super too! On Monday, Ms. Byrne and Ms. Flanagan took four of the boys to Temple Bar’s Arc Cultural Centre to represent the school in receiving our award. Patryk, Dylan, Jordan and Szymon were treated to a fun filled day in Dublin....

After many months of learning about stop-motion animations, apps, lighting, sound, props and recording… here it is. Our complete Creative Schools Awards project in one massive blogpost! So… here it is! Our project has taken us four months to complete. We decided to use our love of ICT and Art in as creative and interesting a way as possible in putting together a stop-motion animation project. We got the idea as early in the year, during Culture Night 2013, our local theatre (The Mermaid) ran a number of events on the night, including children’s animation workshops. We in St. Peter’s...

For the last number of weeks, Ms Brennan and Ms Sexton have been organising an after-school club to prepare for the Creative Schools. We’re working on a collection of stop-motion animations to show the greatest moments of invention and discoveries. It’s called the ‘A-ha Moments Project’ and we can’t wait to show you all of our hard work. So far, we’ve chosen our moments of discovery, storyboarded our animation, written the scripts and started to build with clay. Next, we need to film! Here’s a sneak peek at some of our work so far, courtesy of Patryk from...

Last week we had the great honour of welcoming the Minister of State in Department of Education to St. Peter’s. We had already met Minister Ciaran Cannon at the Excited Digital Learning Conference in Dublin Castle, and this meeting in our school was to celebrate the fact that we have been granted ‘Digital School of Distinction’ status! Showing off our awards and work from this school year! This award was the icing on the cake of a brilliant year of digital learning in our school. Minister Cannon met with students from every class and we got a chance to walk him through some of...

2nd class took their first steps into the world of animation today! As you know, our Creative Schools submission last year was based on stop-motion animation, so we thought it was about time that 2nd class got a taste of one of our favourite creative activities in St Peter’s. Other classes have used Go Animate in the past, and we really enjoyed creating our little video using their latest updates. We chose the background, the length of the scenes, the characters, how the characters acted in each scene and, of course, we recorded the voices! We chose to use part of our ‘comhrá’...

Welcome back to a new year in St Peter’s and to the first ‘Wednesday for Parents’ post of the new year! To start the year, we’ve chosen to look at this year’s programme for Culture Night 2014. This year, it’s on the 19th of September – a Friday. It’s an amazing night where you can access venues and events around the country for free. Although all events are free, some may need to be booked in advance – which is why we’re drawing attention to them nice and early! Locally, the Mermaid Arts Centre has a workshop in the afternoon with Signal Arts. Last year’s...

Last Saturday, St. Peter’s had the huge honour of showcasing their technology and ICT use in Dublin Castle at the Excited Digital Learning Conference. We were invited to participate having completed the Digital Schools of Distinction adjudication. It has been an incredible year for St. Peter’s, and we have worked to improve and enhance our use of ICT at every level in the school. This has led to great success at a national level, and we have been successful in the national Eircom Junior Spiders awards, the national Mathletes finals and we have also won a Creative Schools award for use...

Welcome to the Peter’s Post – our weekly online newsletter! A very busy weekend in St Peter’s Bray – we’d Mathletes all day on Saturday (more on that later!) and our fantastic 2nd class made their Communion on Sunday. We also had a hectic four day week, preparing for polling and welcoming Neal from Digital Schools!
